CRKT ExiTool

Twin On Tour Posted on September 13, 2020 by kayleneSeptember 13, 2020

When you think about survival gear, you might think about gear that will help you survive should you be forced to abandon your home and belongings for any reason. I’ve come to realize, however, that those are not the only types of survival situations you could encounter. The CRKT ExiTool is one tool for those survival situations that are less likely to cross your mind. The ExiTool is a great emergency tool to keep in your car—it slides on to your seat belt and stays pretty inconspicuous until you need it. The multi-tool has a seatbelt cutter, LED light, and … Continue reading →

Twin On Tour Posted on September 12, 2020 by kayleneMarch 14, 2023

Bear Grylls is a well known figure in the world of survival no matter how you look at it, or how you feel about it. He has the survival street cred; he served three years in the British Special Forces (21 SAS), until he broke his back in three places in a parachuting accident in Africa. He has climbed Mt. Everest. Not too long ago, this rugged adventurer decided to endorse his own line of survival products. He was approached by several knife companies, and Bear decided to go with Gerber Knives. How to cook muskrat

Twin On Tour Posted on September 12, 2020 by kayleneSeptember 12, 2020

Before we start talking about how to cook muskrat, let’s first talk about what a muskrat is. A muskrat not a rat.  It is a rodent, but that’s all it has in common with rats. At the risk of offending a lot of experts, muskrats are pretty much like small beavers, but with a tail that’s flattened vertically instead of horizontally.  That’s the simple description. They have been a valuable source of food and fur in the US and Canada since well before the Europeans came. Muskrats live everywhere from northern Canada to Mexico and they are not threatened or … Continue reading →

Everyday weeds can be pioneer food

Twin On Tour Posted on September 11, 2020 by kayleneSeptember 11, 2020

The Foragers Digest blog has a fantastic springtime post about wild edible plants. These days their culinary uses are almost forgotten and we classify them as weeds. But a lot of those “weeds” were carried into the west by pioneer and settler families to be cultivated for food. Lamb’s Quarter is a great example of a long forgotten salad green that is often growing right under our noses. I weeded Lamb’s Quarter out of my garden hundreds of times before I realized what it was.

What to look for in a survival knife

Twin On Tour Posted on September 10, 2020 by kayleneMarch 14, 2023

If you’re roughing it outdoors, you’re probably a tough person, and you’ll need a tough knife to keep with you. Here are some traits to consider when you’re searching for that knife that’s as tough as you are. Full Tang Because your survival knife must be versatile, it also needs to be durable. First, a knife with a full tang is going to … Continue reading →

Five Pioneer Poultices

Twin On Tour Posted on September 9, 2020 by kayleneMarch 14, 2023

For pioneers and settlers on the frontier, doctors and medicine were often too expensive, too far away, and probably not that reliable anyway. Medicine was usually a home-grown affair built up of knowledge that was tried, tested and handed down over generations. A common feature of 19th Century medicine was the use of poultices. Just like recipes for meals, there was hundreds if not thousands of poultice recipes. Some were freely shared and some were closely guarded. Poultices are usually some kind of warm compress used to treat skin sores, boils and splinters as well as muscle and joint aches … Continue reading →

Should you buy Flood and Earthquake Insurance?

Twin On Tour Posted on September 8, 2020 by kayleneNovember 8, 2022

Most people will tell you that both flood and earthquake disasters are extremely rare today. Even if this is true, the most recent disasters that have occurred in both the United States and beyond have been extremely devastating both emotionally and financially. If you didn’t have insurance and your house ended up in the middle of a natural disaster, how would you pay for it? Do you think that you would have enough money to potentially rebuild your entire house from scratch? Will homeowners insurance alone be enough to cover you? These are questions that everyone should be able to … Continue reading →

Top 8 Deadly Myths About Survivalism

Twin On Tour Posted on September 6, 2020 by kayleneMarch 14, 2023

For the last several years, our family has been living what some may call the “survivalist” lifestyle. Actually, we live the off-grid (so far off the grid that there is no landline and no cell phone service available), self-sufficient life. We’re not here to get away from the world for a few days while chaos happens and calms down – we don’t think that’s the way it will go, anyway. We’re here because we have chosen to separate ourselves from the rate race, the system, and not be swept away in the tide of what we see as a society … Continue reading →

Twin On Tour Posted on September 5, 2020 by kayleneSeptember 5, 2020

One of the biggest questions we get is how to begin achieving off-grid/energy independent status. Not everyone can afford to go out and buy a 5-kilowatt solar array and the associated batteries. This article is written for those of you who want to begin your road to energy independence, as well as being able to use your laptop, mobile devices, or home security gear like the stuff at Safemart. Being self-sufficient doesn’t necessarily mean living like a caveman. Communication Items You’ll Want Before TSHTF

Twin On Tour Posted on September 4, 2020 by kayleneMarch 14, 2023

Having good radio equipment is important for many reasons. What will you do when there is no Internet? What will you do when there is no cellphone service? How will you know what’s going on in other parts of the country, let alone the world? Radio signals don’t need an intermediary, they just bounce all over the earth and are received by radios. It’s not even necessary that you transmit (speak) on the radio, but the information you can garner from just listening to others from far away is worth the time it takes to understand how to use a … Continue reading →

It’s Not About the Guns

Twin On Tour Posted on September 3, 2020 by kayleneMarch 14, 2023

As (hopefully) all of you reading this will know, the Second Amendment of The Constitution protects Americans’ rights to have weapons (arms) to defend themselves against a tyrannical, out-of-control government. Please note that it does not give Americans the right to have weapons. It protects that right, which is “inalienable”, meaning that the right is inherent in human beings by the fact of their existence on earth, as described in the Declaration of Independence. The Amendment is not about having a gun with which to hunt or skeet-shoot or shoot in competitions of marksmanship. It is about defense against tyranny. Now, in reality, virtually … Continue reading →
